Dance Marathon

Dance Marathon is a fundraiser sponsored by Turning Point, which is a non-profit organization that provides domestic violence services. The event goes from 8pm to 6am, and has many fun games, skits, and great food. It is hosted at Central Middle School. It costs $20 to get into the event for a regular price, or $80 to become a VIP member. All of the money fundraised is donated to Turning Point for their domestic/dating violence services.

Every hour on the hour, everyone travels to the main gym and listens to the skit or speech that they have about dating violence and the signs/when to get help. There are also prizes given away each hour based on your wristband and the larger drawing that they have, which could include baseball tickets, holiday world tickets, gift cards, etc.

There are many different committees that participate in making Dance Marathon happening. These committees include food, entertainment, awareness and prevention, fundraising and sponsorship, prizes, volunteers, facilities, and media, marketing and registration. All committees work hard and spend a large amount of time outside of the hour meetings attempting to get donations, volunteers, and other miscellaneous things.

Tyus Schoettmer is a member on the food committee for Dance Marathon. He helps organize what food is going to be at the dance and which restaurants will be donating food. He has also helped contact each restaurant for his group and does a lot of this work outside of the hour meetings every week.

“Doing such an important task makes me feel like part of what I do has a huge impact on how the dance goes itself. I like making a difference,” Schoettmer said.To sign up for Dance Marathon, go to www.turningpointdv.org. Click register at the top of the page.
