This Friday night, Columbus East will face off against the Franklin Community Bear Cubs in the O’s first sectional game. The state tournament is here and now it’s win or go home for every team involved.

This will be the team’s first appearance in the 5A tournament in five years. They last ended up here in 2010. The high “A” usually contains the better teams. Should East be concerned? Not at all, according to the players who are very hyped about about the playoffs.

“Bigger schools and some better teams just gives us the the opportunity to go in and show how we really matchup against some of the best. We’re not worried. The team is glad that we get a chance to prove ourself,” said sophomore Thomas Myers.

The game itself is looking to be a good one, especially for Columbus East as they will be coming in undefeated. Franklin’s record is a mere 1-8. Regardless of the records, tournament time doesn’t seem to be the time to overlook anyone or any team.

“We prepare for every team the same. We didn’t overlook anyone in the regular season and we don’t plan on starting now that the tournaments here,” said senior Jason Groover.

Both teams will definitely be hyped up and ready to play hard Friday as they will clash for their first tournament game. Be sure to support your Olympians as the torch looks to shine bright on another Friday night.
