East girls’ swimming team has a bright season ahead of them

With Jill Arnholt as the head coach for the girls’ swimming team for the fourth year and Ron Novak helping with diving, the coaches and athletes plan on having a good season.

“The season is going to go great. We have a lot of quick times already in the season and technique is improving for a lot of the beginners. There are about 30 girls on the team,” Arnholt said.

The team’s season last year went well. Though the team lost three talented seniors last year, junior Cortney Vanliew is leading this year’s team as the only swimmer to make it to the state competition last year.

The H2Olympians are welcoming many new members as well.

Sophomore Morgan Meier is one of those new swimmers, who is excited to be a part of such a closely bonded team.

“Everybody gets along really well and everybody supports each other,” Meier said.

Arnholt also explains that the coaching staff is happy with the girls’ desire to improve as a whole.

“They are doing a good job at pushing each other at practice as well as providing support and encouragement to each other,” she said.

Most recently, the team fell to Franklin Central by a score of 113-64. Their next meet is Dec 3rd at Shelbyville.
