Dino of the Week: Spinosaurus

Name: Spinosaurus

Time Period: They are believed to have lived between 112-93 million years ago.

Diet: Spinos were ferocious carnivores and were believed to have a diet consisting mostly of fish, although they most likely ate both land and aquatic prey.

Size: Spinos were just as big or even bigger than tyrannosaurus rexes, and it is estimated that they weighed up to 23 tons and grew up to 60 feet in length. The spines on their back grew to almost five and a half feet tall.

Fun Facts:

  • Spinos had webbed feet which allowed them to be excellent swimmers as well as catch their prey.
  • There are six identified genera of Spinosaurus.
  • The Spino’s skull was shaped like that of a modern day crocodile.
