From a 2015 report, suicide was the 10th leading cause of death for all ages in the United States. It was also the second leading cause of death for people under the age of 18.

This week is National Suicide Prevention Week and East High School is joining in. Student assembly had many different methods for spreading the word, including the cookout that took place at lunch. Student assembly grilled hot dogs, provided chips, macaroni and cheese, lemonade and even featured doughnuts from Donut Central.

Along with the cookout, student assembly passed out purple ribbons on Monday to spread awareness for prevention week. Tuesday, they passed out lollipops with info about the cookout.
