On December 18, 2019, the House of Representatives officially impeached President Donald Trump. The news quickly erupted, with millions of social media posts, Youtube live streams and Trump himself angrily tweeting his thoughts. With emotions ranging from worry to extreme happiness, the media was a frenzy. 

Trump’s impeachment is only in the preliminary stages of the process and it still hasn’t been decided whether or not he will continue to stay in office. With Trump being only the 3rd president in history to be impeached and for most of us, the first in our lifetime it might not entirely be clear how this exactly works. 

Impeachment is defined as a charge of misconduct made against the holder of a public office.  Despite this, it doesn’t stop him from continuing to govern our country until the Senate votes otherwise, which only set to happen in the early months of 2020. 

The President was charged on an account of abuse of power and obstruction of Congress with many other allegations following him since the beginning of his time in office. The future of the United States ministration is still up in the air with many decisions still needing to be made and more evidence needing to be found. 

On Tuesday, it was said that Republicans have enough votes to proceed with the trial regarding his impeachment. John Bolton, the former United States National Security Advisor, might agree to testify which would put Donald Trump’s authority in office in jeopardy.   

Whether this means that Trump’s time in office is coming to an end or he will be back like normal, the direction of our country in years to come still awaits.
