Dear Mrs. Carroll,
Being in your class is one of my favorite parts of the day. When I come to your class you seem to always greet me with a smile. Instead of jumping into a load of instructions for our assignments, you always take the time to ask everyone how they’re doing. It may seem like a simple thing to most, but it actually means a lot to feel like a teacher is considering a student’s life and welcoming them not as just a student, but also an adult.
The atmosphere you create in your classroom makes me feel at home, as well as all the conversations that we have in your room that make the class not only informative, but also entertaining. I remember when we were studying Romeo and Juliet. While most teachers plan many paper activities to understand the story, you let us have plays. Not only was this more engaging, but it was so much more fun to see each other act and really love getting into character.
Your encouragement to the class to really get into their role made it really easy to have fun and look forward to coming to English. The way you encourage a student to give their best effort and push us to always think deeper by always asking “why” is one of the best qualities a teacher could posses. Though many do not appreciate you always playing devil’s advocate, I feel like it’s really amazing to try to push every student out of their comfort zones so that they have a chance to give what’s on their mind, especially when some of us just don’t volunteer on our own. You have a way of seeing the hidden potential in every student and making it your personal goal to help them reach it and create a warm space for them to come when they need help.
You are an amazing teacher for all these reasons and more, and I really appreciate how personal you make everything feel. You are the best teacher I’ve ever had and I feel lucky to have been in your class.
Sincerely, your student,
Joycee Redman
