On Tuesday, October 25, the Columbus East Lady Olympian Volleyball team faced the Center Grove Trojans in the regional final, a team that they lost to previously this season. East started strong, winning the first set 25-21 and the second 25-17.

The Trojans rallied in the third set and took an early 6 point run. The Olympians came back and got within 2 points before the Trojans closed out the set 25-23. With the home court advantage, the Columbus East fans rallied behind the Lady O’s, helping them to secure a regional title with a 25-23 fourth set.

When asked about the team’s performance, Senior middle hitter, Bailey Western, said, “Serve receive and defense were our best aspects tonight.”

Senior Cortney VanLiew led the team with 27 kills and Western added 21 kills and 6 blocks.

“The next step for us is to go out Saturday against Avon and win,” said Western. “We are going to watch film, review scouting reports, and recover, but other than that we are going to keep playing the way we play.”

Columbus East will take on the No. 5 ranked Avon Orioles this Saturday, October 29, in the Orange Pit at 12:30. This will not be the first time East and Avon have matched up this year. The Orioles are currently 2-0 against the Olympians.

East hopes to end this run and secure a spot in the Semi-State championship this Saturday.
