Strong Start for Sanders

Hillary Clinton’s only serious completion for the Democratic nomination, Socialist Senator Bernie Sanders, gets off to a strong start pushing Clinton to a virtual tie in the Iowa Caucuses and then winning the New Hampshire primary.

Scalia Dies & SCOTUS Madness

Conservative Justice Antonin Scalia dies unexpectedly and leaves his seat on the United States Supreme Court vacant. The seat remains vacant for the rest of the year due to Congress’s refusal to confirm Obama’s nominee Merrick Garland. This standoff resulted in several cases having a “hung court” where no division was reached. The vacancy remains open.

Jeb Bush Drops out

After failing to win any of the state primaries or caucuses, Republican Presidential hopeful, Jeb Bush, drops out of the race. Bush was heavily favored to win the nomination and is the brother of President George W. Bush, and son of President George H.W. Bush.

Syria has temporary cease fire

Both the United States and Russia agree to engage in a “Cessation of Hostilities” starting on February 27. The temporary lull in the violence lasts only a few days, however it gives many hope that the years long Syrian Civil war could end. Yet, the war is ongoing.
