People Trail Addition Coming Soon
October 5, 2017
The Newbern bridge is getting a new home along the Columbus people trail.
The Bridge used to run along Country Road 850E, and moving it will make reaching Lincoln Park much safer, as runners will no longer have to traverse 25th Street.
The People Trail offers an opportunity for the citizens of Columbus to go outside and be active. Up and down the trail you can see people walking, jogging, biking, and skating. The trail is also a great way for getting from one destination to the next in Columbus without walking on busy roads.
The People Trail stretches from Goeller Blvd. to State Street. It goes through 4 tunnels and passes by many of the architectural sites in Columbus. But one of the problems is the busy roads that the trail runs on.
One of the more dangerous roads that it runs along is 25th Street and the city has looked to change that.
Over the 2017 summer, about five blocks of the trail by Haw Creek was shut down due to construction. Instead of the trail running along 25th street, the city decided to put up a piece of history to connect to Lincoln Park, the New Bern Bridge.
With the new addition, scheduled to be installed in September, people will be able to travel along the trail in a much safer and more efficient way.
