February 24, 2016
Luke Major received the Anna Newell Brown Award for Vocal Excellence on February 13. This scholarship is worth $3,500 to help with college expenses. Major had to compete in a singing competition at First Christian Church. He competed in the senior division, against 4 other opponents, and he got first place.
“I had to sing two songs,” Major said, “one in English and one in another language, so I did a song in French.”
Major said he felt very excited about receiving the scholarship, “It’s been a goal of mine to win it and I’ve been working towards it since August of last year.”
Major is planning on pursuing musical theatre, but he is unsure of what school he will be attending. He had to audition for all schools he applied to, and he is waiting on results. His auditions were for a number of nearby schools, including Ball State, Indiana University, Cincinnati and Western Michigan.
