Olympian football team looks to win sectional championship
November 3, 2016
The Columbus East football team has had yet another successful regular season. Even though they lost to Columbus North early on, they have not lost since then. They finished the regular season with a Hoosier Hills Conference title, but they are not satisfied.
The team defeated 5A No. 2 ranked New Palestine in the first round of sectionals by a score of 35-7, and then moved on to easily beat Martinsville by a score of 49-9 in the sectional semifinals.
East plays for the sectional championship against Whiteland. These two teams met last season in the sectional semifinal when East won 28-14.
“We have been watching a lot of film and we are confident this week,” senior defensive end Zach Sutton said.
This matchup has big meaning for the rest of the state tournament; the winner will move on to the regional championship and play the winner of Zionsville and Plainfield.
The game will be played this Friday, November 4, at Columbus East. Kickoff is at 7 p.m.
