What you should know about Columbus: A list of various aspects that I know are important after living here for a few years. This list includes architecture, politics, and other random facts, like famous people from Columbus. Take a look at some things that you really should know about Columbus.
- J. Irwin Miller was basically the start of Columbus. Not only was he the president of Cummins, he agreed to pay all the funding for public buildings if the community agreed to the architects on his pre-approved list. That is why there are so many cool buildings in Columbus.
- It used to be named Tiptonia, after the General John Tipton, who had built a cabin on a hill overlooking the White River.
- It is named sixth in the country for architectural innovation by the American Institute of Architects.
- Columbus is the birthplace and/or hometown of many famous folks, including the VP Mike Pence, the adventurous guy from MythBusters, Jamie Hyneman, Tony Stewart the legendary NASCAR driver, and the shoe legend Chuck Taylor.
- Chuck Taylor honored the high school rivalry between North and East with a limited edition pair of Chucks in 2014.
- The National Register of Historic Places recognizes 19 locations in Columbus as having significant and historic value.
- James Lienhoop is the current mayor, elected in 2016.
- There was a movie, directed by Koganda, starring John Cho and Haley Lu Richardson, filmed in Columbus.
- Small businesses boom in this city, from restaurants to book stores, there are many places to visit and see located only in Columbus.
