In 2013, the performing arts area underwent major construction and renovations. Now, two years later upon the completion of the renovations, the band and choir resource will finally be opening. Teachers are making their final preparations for the resource to open while students are looking forward to being able to use the area.

The performing arts teacher assistant and secretary, Stacy Sweeney, has her own set of expectations and rules, since she will be in charge of the area.

“Use of the performing arts resource is a privilege, not a right,” Sweeney said. “This is a working area; a quiet atmosphere must be maintained.”

Last year, the band room was open to band students to come in and do their homework and practice instruments. Many of the rules will stay the same, but the layout of the resource area is a lot different than it was before.

The assistant band director, Tim Brookshire, wants to keep most or all of the same rules from last year, including only letting performing arts students use the resource.

“There is more space; the students have more options. We are excited to have the music technology room where students can have their needs met in terms of the music technology,” said Brookshire.

Not only are the teachers excited to officially open the resource sometime this week, but the students are excited to use the newly renovated space.

Amber Eubanks, a senior, likes the openness of the new resource area. She used the resource last year and plans to use the resource in the same way this year.

“I worked on homework mostly or if I was having difficulty with a particular piece of music, I would practice it,” Eubanks said.

Seniors that are in band or choir finally get a nicer facility to practice their music and finish their homework after three years in the old area. However, sophomore, Rachel Hensley is also excited to use the band resource for the first time.

“I never went to the old band resource last year,” Hensley said. “This year I will do my homework that I would have to do. I am also excited to use the new practice rooms.”

The students and the teachers are anxiously awaiting the official opening of the resource as the rules are still being put into place.

“We are meeting next week, all the teachers and Ms. Sweeney,” Brookshire said. “After our meeting, we’ll open up the resource officially.”
