From 4A to 6A

With the recent 20-13 victory of Castle High School, Columbus East moves up the scale and into the 6A division.

6A is the biggest division in IHSAA filled with some of the top schools in Indiana, including schools like Carmel and East’s crosstown rival, Columbus North.

While East is originally a 4A school, their recent success in titles and overall dominance have helped them steadily move up the division scale. In fact, over the past five years, East has made five semi-state appearances, three state appearances, and two state titles.

“I am excited. Columbus North is always talking about big boy football and now it’s time for us to move up and get past a sectional,” Junior Cole Gilly said.

While the recent move is a big milestone for East football, they are not done playing 5A divisional football yet. This Friday, East faces no easy task while they play Decatur for the Semi-State title and a shot at the State Title.

“I think we have a good shot. It’s gonna be a good game. They are a pretty good team but we are good too, so as long as we play together we will be just fine,” Gilly said.

As the post season is coming to an end, East hopes to come into 6A with a state title under their belts.
