Senior basketball starter Parker Chitty verbally committed to play at Eastern Kentucky University on Sunday.

“I wanted a chance to play at the highest level of college sports,” Chitty said on decision to commit to the Division 1 school, which is located in Richmond, Ky.

Chitty was considering attending other schools in the region, but his visit to EKU made a great impact on his decision.

“When I went on my visit to Eastern Kentucky, I knew it was the place for me. I really like the coaching staff, and I felt like it was home,” Chitty said.

The Colonels, who play in the Ohio Valley Conference, were 21-12 last season. Chitty’s decision wasn’t purely based on basketball. The size of the school and the opportunities he would have were major factors.

EKU’s head basketball coach Dan McHale has a good reputation in the world of college coaching, which Chitty hopes to take advantage of.

“Its a bigger school, and I wanted a big area, and I want to go into college coaching, and Coach McHale has a lot of connections with that. The reason I chose EKU was because of the future I would have after EKU,” Chitty said.
