Film Digest: December

Alex Hahn, Writer

December is the time of Christmas movies, Oscar hopefuls and recently Star Wars films. As usual here are five films to check out this month.

‘La La Land’

It’s a musical! Featuring Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling as they play out a time old tale of falling in love, waltzing throughout a pastel colored Los Angeles.

La La Land is rated PG-13 and is slated to premiere December 9 at AMC.

‘Passengers’

Soft philosophical Sci-Fi with two of Hollywood’s newer stars; Chris Pratt and Jennifer Lawrence. Long in development but finally arriving, Passengers is a sci-fi story that seems to be half the two strangers forced to talk to each other, and half action adventure.

Passengers is rated PG-13 and is slated to premiere December 21 at AMC.

‘Collateral Beauty’

Will Smith slides into the role of heartbroken father who writes letters to things as therapy after the death of his daughter. But Love, Death and Time eventually return his letters and they settle down into conversations.

Collateral Beauty is rated PG-13 and is slated to premiere December 16 at AMC.

‘Sing’

Another musical! This has been fondly nicknamed Zootopia Idol. When a koala’s theater falls on hard times he launches a singing competition that breathes life into a full time mother, a son of a gang boss and a colorful cast of other animals.

Sing is rated PG-13 and is slated to premiere December 21 at YES Cinema and AMC.

‘Rogue One: A Star Wars Story’

After last year’s return to form for the Star Wars franchise, Lucasfilm is looking for a repeat success with the first major star wars spin off.  This film attempts to recreate the success of the Force Awakens by blending elements from the classic films and sprinkling in new characters, both original and recently established. Star Wars looks to be holding steady.

Rogue One is rated PG-13 and is slated to premier at YES Cinema and AMC on December 16th. Both Theaters have pre-sale tickets available now.
