Sergeant Jonathan Hunter’s Funeral Procession: 22 August 2017

At approximately 11:30 A.M., people from all throughout the city of Columbus lined the sidewalks of Central Avenue, 25th Street, and Washington Street waving their American flags and showing their condolences for our fallen soldier, and to many, our fallen friend, Sgt. Jonathan Hunter.

Groups of veteran motorcyclist groups led the way as his body was transferred from the Columbus Municipal Airport to the Barkes, Weaver, & Glick funeral home.

Sgt. Hunter was killed in Afghanistan by a suicide bomber along with Spc. Chris Harris earlier this month. On August 22nd, 2017, the Columbus community showed its support in a huge way. Everybody from retired war veterans to elementary school children came out to show their support.

Although it began to rain minutes before the procession began, in what seemed as a sign from above, the rain stopped as the procession began, and started back up immediately after the procession passed by.

Everyone in attendance gave their full support to the Hunter family. Through tears, the unanimous answer when asked about what this says about our community was that it shows how close everyone is. It shows a sense of pride to come from a great city like Columbus.

The funeral service for Sgt. Hunter will be held Saturday, August 26th at 2:00 P.M. at Columbus East High School in the gymnasium. Anyone and everyone is encouraged to attend.
