As the new year begins, The Oracle gains new staff members, and one of them is none other than Abby Dabson. As a sophomore at East, she much prefers it over North, but it is much like any other school- more classes, more homework, and generally more stress.
“I am most excited about taking journalism, but I’m not really sure what I want to be on staff,” Dabson said.
There are a variety of roles necessary for the publication of The Oracle, with two primary jobs available for new staff. Writers interview people and write stories about what readers want to learn about. Designers get creative liberty over how the pages appear, which further communicates the message being portrayed in the story.
However, she does more than just schoolwork. On top of taking classes, she also is a member of the Student Assembly.
“This is my second year as a member of the organization,” Dabson said. “Last year, we helped pick out the homecoming tiaras.”
Student assembly is in charge of student environmental activities, such as homecoming, sports games and student section, spirit weeks, and much, much more. Dabson has a role within this student-led organization by helping approve and brainstorm ideas for upcoming events. She does not know if she wants to keep moving up within the group, but her current presence is greatly felt.
On top of all of her school work and extracurricular activities, Dabson also does gymnastics with Victory Gymnastics here in Columbus.
“I’ve done gymnastics for a while now, I can’t even remember when I started,” Dabson said.
Ultimately, as the year starts kicking into full gear, one thing is for certain- Dabson is going to be a wonderful addition to The Oracle staff.
