Grammys 2024

Grammys+2024

The Grammys have been a popular award show since 1959 celebrating artists, actors and other celebrities’ accomplishments. As expected, this year’s Grammys did not disappoint viewers with awards given and artist performances despite the unexpected rain in LA, causing some attendees to be late.

This year, women dominated, winning most of the major categories. Lainey Wilson won Best Country Album which is a category dominated by men. Miley Cyrus won both Best Pop Solo Performance and Record of the Year with her hit, “Flowers”. SZA was the most nominated artist of 2024 with 9 different nominations, winning Best R&B Song and Best Pop Duo/Group Performance.

Taylor Swift won Album of the Year and became the artist with the most wins for Album of the Year. She also announced the release of her new album “The Tortured Poets Department” during her acceptance speech.

History was made when three new Grammy categories were introduced this year; Best African Music Performance, Best Alternative Jazz Album, and Best Pop Dance Recording.

One unfortunate event that occurred was the arrest of Killer Mike after an altercation occurred before the Grammys. He was escorted out of the event in handcuffs and charged with a misdemeanor after winning three awards.

This year’s live performances were performed by Olivia Rodrigo, Travis Scott, Tracy Chapman and Luke Combs, Burna Boy, Billie Eilish, Dua Lipa and the most-nominated artist of the night, SZA.

Legend Joni Mitchell won her 10th Grammy for Best Folk Album. Mitchell also gave an emotional performance of “Both Sides, Now”. This was her first ever Grammys performance, impressively done at eighty years old.

Altogether this year, the Grammys had an amazing turnout and it was a very successful event.
