Mandalorian Review: Episode Three
Episode three of The Mandalorian advances the plot of the show more than any of the two episodes before it. It brings back elements and characters from The Clone Wars, unlike what has been shown so far.
After the events of the last episode, the Mandalorian lands on an ocean planet to drop off the passenger and get information on other Mandalorians like him. While there, he meets members of the Quarren species, who claim they knew where to find the other Mandalorians. While on a boat, the Quarren trick Mando and knock the child into an ocean beasts mouth. Mando jumps after the child and gets trapped in the water. As Mando is on his last breath he is saved by three Mandalorians, led by Bo-Katan Kryze, from Star Wars: The Clone Wars.
Bo-Katan explains to Mando that she will lead him and the child to a Jedi as long as he helps the other Mandalorians capture an imperial ship that is filled with weapons. Mando and the others blast their way through the Stormtroopers and capture the weapons. Bo-Katan quickly interrogates the imperial officer about the Darksaber, a lightsaber that belonged to a Mandalorian. The last time we saw the Darksaber Moff Gideon, played by Giancarlo Esposito, was in possession of it. The imperial officer dies before he can tell Bo-Katan where the Darksaber is. Bo-Katan then tells Mando where he can find the Jedi. She says he will find another Clone Wars character, Ashoka Tano, on the planet Calodan. The episode ends with Mando and the child flying away to Calodan.
This was my favorite episode so far. After last week’s disappointing episode I am glad to see the story being progressed. I just hope we keep this pace of story progression instead of filler episodes. I am also loving how we are getting more and more elements from the Clone Wars show. Showrunner John Favreau was a recurring character in The Clone Wars, who played Pre Visla, the Mandalorian leader Bo-Katan followed until he died. I can not wait to see more Ashoka Tano in future episodes, as she is one of the best Star Wars characters.
