IHSAA State Wrestling Meet

When the wrestling season started off this season, everyone had high hopes for how it would go. This excitement is justified seeing as how 13 wrestlers made it to semi-state last weekend. Only 4 of the wrestlers advanced to state, but Ashton Hartwell,  Kade Law, Noah Lykins, and Tommy Morrill all made East proud. Only Law and Hartwell advanced to wrestle on Saturday and both boys did an incredible job and put up good fights.

Law finished second place in the 160-pound weight class. During the semifinals, Law’s match went into a double-overtime but he ended up coming out on top. In the finals match, Law wrestled against J Conaway from Floyd Central, who he lost to twice previously in the season. Law lost to him again in the final match for first place, but it was very close the whole time. This is Law’s senior year and he has been wrestling ever since he was little. He plans to continue wrestling at Purdue University next year.

Hartwell finished eighth place in the 285 weight class. Hartwell lost his three matches on Saturday, one by decision and two by pin. He tried his hardest and fought to the best of his abilities. Hartwell did an incredible job, especially since he weighed in at around 230 pounds this whole season, but has continued to wrestle in the 285-pound weight class.

Overall, our boys did great and we are excited to see what the Olympians can accomplish next year!
