The Oscars Overview
The Academy Awards, also known as The Oscars, were first presented in 1929 at a private dinner party. It was then broadcasted on the radio in 1930 and soon shown on television in 1953. This year’s Academy Awards were held on Sunday at the Dolby Theatre.
There were three hosts; Regina Hall, Wanda Sykes, and Amy Schumer. As well as performances by celebrities such as; Beyonce, Billie Eilish & Finneas, Reba McEntire, and Van Morrison.
During this year’s awards show many historical moments occurred, including a jaw-dropping slap by Will Smith. Before divulging into the fiasco of drama that unfolded there may have been some amazing moments missed.

Comedians Clash
Overshadowing the show was the interaction between Will Smith and Chris Rock. Rock was on stage getting ready to announce the winner for the best documentary when he decided to make a joke about Jada Smith. He jokes about seeing her in the next G.I. Jane movie.
At first, Will Smith is seen laughing, but after seeing his wife’s reaction to the joke, he gets angry. Smith then proceeds to walk onstage and slap Rock on live television. He walks back to his chair and yells, “Keep my wife’s name out your f***ing mouth,” twice. Rock in utter shock says, “It was just a G.I. Jane joke!”
Many people have chosen sides, saying Smith’s actions were deserving, but others disagree. There was talk of pressing charges, but Rock did not go forward. Smith issued an apology on Twitter, but there has been no word from Rock. The two stars have been long-time friends, but will they still be after this?
Although the Oscars were rocky, the turnout for awarding nominees was amazing. Surprisingly for the Academy Awards, their views went up by a significant percentage. I wonder why that happened?
