Advice for Preventing Academic Stress and Burnout
My first piece of advice when it comes to preventing academic stress and burnout is don’t leave anything to the last minute. Everyone has their own reason why they do it. But a lot of the time, it’s because you either are procrastinating or don’t have time. Leaving it to do last-minute can put your grade at risk and just cause more burnout.
Which comes in my second piece of advice: use your time wisely. This can look very different for everyone, but doing work whenever you have time or doing it in class instead of being on your phone can help build good habits.
And lastly, give yourself some time. While yes, doing your work the day it is given can improve your academics, it might cause you to lose time to do other things you like. So putting off time for yourself can help you not feel burned out and give you time to think. Doing things like reading a book, painting, and playing brain games like Sudoku instead of being on your phone can help you avoid procrastinating.
The first piece of advice I have for preventing academic stress and burnout is to use any time you have during the school day towards assignments. If you have 10 minutes at the end of each class to do whatever, then you can have over 40 minutes each day (excluding resource time), plus advisory and lunch, to stay on top of your work.
Another tip for when you have an overload of work is to only do what will be due soon. Personally, if I have a test in a few days and my other work is not due until after, I will only focus on the test so I can fully concentrate on that material. This helps me use as much time as possible, instead of doing weekly assignments before ones due the next day.
The last piece of advice I have is to continue doing the activities that you normally do, even when you have lots of work. For me, I end up even more stressed when I spend my whole evening and night worrying about getting everything done than when I do schoolwork with breaks, listening to music, and going to bed relatively early. Continuing your normal habits will keep your mind relaxed and balanced, instead of stressing about one topic.
