The East football team was the last fall sports team still alive, but their season sadly came to an end with a loss to the Center Grove Trojans in the sectional finals. East athletics is now making the official switch to the winter season, with women’s basketball already playing games.

The Lady O’s basketball team has already picked up a Hoosier Hills Conference win against Floyd Central to start their season off strong. The team is young while fielding no seniors; however, they have high hopes for a winning season.

The men’s basketball team is following closely behind while just recently having tryouts and practicing for their first game on Nov. 21. The team’s goal for the season is to win 10 games and play together as one cohesive unit.

The men’s and women’s swim team has been hard at work practicing nearly twice a day going in before school and staying after with their first meet being on Nov. 14. The team’s drive to work hard comes from wanting to achieve a PR (personal record) every meet and break as many school records as possible.

Men’s wrestling hasn’t stopped working since their season came to an end last year with their team motto of, “climbing our way to the top 1% at a time”. The team continues to grind in order to reach their goal of being JV and Varsity team state champions.

The women’s gymnastics team is the latest starting winter sport with their first meet not being until Jan. 2. The team graduated off no seniors in 2020 and has all their varsity returns in hopes of a season filled with wins to ultimately be a team to qualify for the state finals.

With the uncertainty of COVID-19, all winter athletes have a shared goal of just making it through the season.
