Girls’ Golf Suffers Senior Night Loss

Despite the loss against cross town rivals, the Columbus East Women’s Golf team fiercely competed with the Bulldogs, all while enjoying their last home match as a team.

On Tuesday, September 14, 2021, the spotlight was given to the seniors, as it was their final match at their home course, Otter Creek. Seniors included Harley Gant, Cristen Martinez, Savannah Wells and Peyton Meier.

“I think going into it we were all a bit nervous because not only was it our senior night but it was also our last match of the regular season,” Meier said. “Overall I’m proud that we were able to push through and I think we played our best we could that day.”

The Olympians ended with a 179, while Columbus North ended with a 163. Although the match ended in defeat, all of the players, JV and Varsity, put forth their best effort. After this match, the lady Olympians are ready for the post season and what it may entail.

“Our dream and our goal is to qualify as a team for state and if not, get as many girls as we can to qualify individually,” Meier said.

The women’s golf team has high hopes for the rest of the season, looking ahead to achieve their goals.  And even though it may be challenging, these girls are ready for what they will accomplish.
