Caroline’s Craft Corner: Yarn Pom Beanie Ornaments

The holidays are here and many of us have trees in need of decorations. Instead of buying the usual red, green or gold baubles or ornaments to decorate your tree this year, how about trying to make one. Using some yarn and a cut off piece of a cardboard tube, a cozy pom beanie hat can adorn any tree this Christmas season.

Materials:

  • Yarn
  • Cardboard tube
  • Scissors
  • Cotton ball

Steps:

  1. Cut a ¼  inch piece from the cardboard tube using scissors.
  2. Using a small book, take the yarn and wrap it around several times.
  3. With the yarn wrapped many times, take the scissors and cut the wrapped yarn in half. This will ensure that all pieces are the same length.
  4. Taking one piece at a time, slip knot each piece around the cut tube.
  5. Once all pieces have been tied, push the yarn inward then place the cotton ball inside to fill the hat.
  6. Lastly, with an extra piece of yarn, wrap the piece around the hanging ends of yarn making a pom-pom for the hat. Trim the edges to make a more evenly shaped pom-pom.

Happy holidays and happy crafting!!
