East has won every volleyball match versus North for the last 39 years. This year is no different as they won 0-3 sets. In the first set, East was confident and defeated North 19-25. In the second set, North came back 25-22, but East recovered quickly and won the two remaining sets.
North Vs. East games are extremely prevalent in our community. These games bring Columbus together, while also igniting fierce competition. This year the game was hosted at East. Each player worked hard to defeat their cross-town rivals and did not hold back to keep the undefeated title. East won in three out of four sets, with North only winning one set out of the entire game.
The North Vs. East game is very special each year, but this one was especially meaningful for assistant coach Teri Sweazy and the girls he has coached for years. Sweazy has been a coach here at East for 17 years, and coaching in the community for 30. This is Sweazy’s final year as a coach and his final North Vs. East game, bringing lots of emotions to himself and the crowd. Sweazy gave a heartfelt speech that brought many to tears.
Sweazy has impacted each player’s current and future volleyball career. Senior, Jenna Guse feels he has tremendously helped her, “he held me accountable and didn’t take it easy on me. He told me when I needed to step it up, and was my biggest fan when I did.” Teri Sweazy has been an amazing coach for East and left a positive impact on each player he has coached.
