Flower Pressing 101

Left and right, as spring arrives, flowers are beginning to bloom which means it is the perfect time to learn the popular art of flower pressing. This practice has been around for a while but had a resurgence in popularity a couple years ago. Learning this skill not only is a good way to spend any Saturday afternoon, but the results are near impossible to mess up. 

Materials:

2 sheets of wax paper

Fresh flowers 

2 Heavy books

Steps:

  1. Open one book to about the middle and lay a sheet of wax paper on top of the exposed page.
  2. Take the chosen flowers and lay them out on the wax paper. For more than one flower, spread out the buds evenly on the page.
  3. Next, lay the second sheet of wax paper on top of the flowers. 
  4. Close the book leaving the flowers to press for one week.

 

From laminating the finished flowers into bookmarks or setting them in resin molds there are many ways to customize this craft so enjoy and happy crafting!
