East girls’ basketball assistant coach William Humes will be inducted into the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame on March 23, the Hall of Fame announced last week. The team is proud of his accomplishment and all he has done for them.

Humes has an impressive background as a student-athlete beginning with Madison High School, where he holds the record for 2nd all-time leading scorer as well as the record for most points scored in a single game. Humes continued basketball in college at Vincennes and Idaho State. While at Vincennes, Humes was an All-American and scored over 1,000 points. In his time at Idaho State, Humes again scored over 1,000 points in only two seasons. After college, he was drafted into the NBA by the Atlanta Hawks in 1971. As for his coaching career, Humes has been coaching girls’ basketball for over a decade.

“It was overwhelming being inducted into the Indiana Hall of Fame,” Humes said.

The girls on the team look up to Humes, and he has formed special relationships with them as well as the head coach, Danny Brown.

The two make a great coaching team and make each other better.

“I was ecstatic and so happy for him. He is well deserving and should’ve been in it a long time ago. We’re the best of friends and see eye to eye. From the get-go when I got here, the first man I went after was Willie Humes,” coach Danny Brown said.
