In August, First Lady Jill Biden visited Westfield High School She made the trip to Westfield, Indiana, because of the fantastic work of the club at the school that focused on student’s mental health. They have made beautiful accomplishments in this club that do not only positively affect the club members but others in the school.
After listening to the presentation, Biden made a speech with the local district, state, and federal government on how they can improve students’ mental health in and outside the school.
This presentation was supposed to be a small gathering with the club itself but at the last second, Biden wanted to invite more parents and students to the meeting so that she could meet more people and be more involved in the Westfield area.
“Teenagers know how to talk to each other. They know how to support each other,” Westfield senior John said. “But it’s not our job to fix each other.”
Biden continues to go around and visit many other schools to speak with their students on how she can help the students and their clubs surrounding the topic of mental health.
“If you’re going through tough times, and struggling at home, you know you can go to your teachers, they are always there for you,” Biden said.
After the meeting, Biden went on to Chicago schools and greeted more students in their after-school events.
