Starting the season out with a bang, the Columbus East Olympians varsity girl’s basketball team won a nail-biting game against Purdue Polytech. Toward the end of the fourth quarter, Purdue Polytech made an unexpected comeback, causing the game to go into overtime. Going into overtime is never an easy task, yet the Olympians handled the pressure with grace, coming out on top 57 to 50. Seniors Madelyn Poe and Messiah Trapp led the way to victory, with Poe scoring an impressive 22 points in her debut for the Olympians and Trapp with 15 points and nine rebounds.
This year is full of changes for the Lady O’s as they have both new leadership and members. New to the team this year are seniors Caroline Frost and Savanna Sullivan, as well as head coach Kaitlyn Philips. Their season has only just begun, and the Oracle staff can not wait to see the team continue to improve throughout their basketball season.
