Recently, TikTok has been flooded with reports of pre-teen girls overtaking popular cosmetic stores like Sephora and Ulta. Sephora customers and employees have witnessed these young girls, “Sephora girls”, bullying and harassing others as well as ransacking stores.
“Sephora girls” are after the most trendy products and will take extreme measures to get them. Customers of Sephora have reported preteen girls arguing and harassing people to get the products they want. Some will go as far as running to a product display and pushing others out of the way.
On top of their aggressive behavior, they also have been seen damaging items and using them in-store without purchasing.
Brands like Drunk Elephant, Rare Beauty, and Charlotte Tilbury are mainly marketed for adults but have been in high demand by the “Sephora girls”. These products contain ingredients like retinol and exfoliating acids that are far too strong for young skin. If these girls continue to use products that are meant for them they are at risk for permanently damaging their skin.
Not only are these products harsh to young skin but they are extremely expensive. Drunk Elephant skincare ranges from thirty-two to one hundred thirty-four dollars. Young girls simply cannot afford to buy products at these prices.
Parents believe that influencers and cultural brands are to blame, as well as social media.
